    Hallo,

    LoL.

Wo macht denn irgendwer irgendwen runter?

    Long Answer Key
    1 C: Cephalotes atratus

    2 C: Solenopsis richteri
    http://www.msstate.edu/org/missi...chteri.htm

    3 A: 625
Some of you might have noticed I didnât cite âPheidole in the New Worldâ? in my opening and I must confess I got the answer form a website trying to sell the book. However I also found another website saying the answer was 624.
    http://www.hup.harvard.edu/catalog/WILPHE.html

    4 C: Myrmelachista schumanni
    news.softpedia.com/news/A...9043.shtml

5 B: They frequently change direction, especially when disturbed.
    http://www.deh.gov.au/parks/chri...crazy.html

6 A or N/A: I had the answer as A: Monomorium pharaonis but it seems they do form super colonies according to âJourney to the Antsâ? page 39-40 which says a super colony is an entity of theoretical unlimited size. In âThe Antsâ? the definition of a super colony is an unicolonial population, in which workers move freely from one nest to another, so that the entire population is a single colony. Iâve never read or herd of Monomorium pharaonis acting in this way, so this is open to debate.

    7 C: Formica
    http://www.myrmecos.net/formicinae/ForWhe1.html

    8 A: Pheidole
    dermatology.cdlib.org/93/...adini.html

    9 A or B: 20-25mm about
    animaldiversity.ummz.umic...xdens.html
âThe queen is the largest ant in the colony, often measuring an inch or longerâ? Thatâs about 23mm so A or B was correct.

10 B: On the inner surface of a mandible.
âJourney to the Antsâ? page 133, diagram C, âThe Circocylliba mite belongs to a species specialized for riding on the inner surface of the mandibles of major workers of Eciton.

    11 D: Paratrechina
    http://www.myrmecos.net/formicin...china.html
Probably shouldnât be using that as a source but I trust him.

    12 A: Conomyrma bicolor
âJourney to the Antsâ? pictured between pages 84 and 85.

    13 D: Acropyga epedana
    http://www.myrmecos.net/formicinae/AcrEpe1.html

    14 D: Leucocoprinus
Because Penicillin is the fungus that grows on oranges, Lactobacillus grows on tomato juice agar, and I have no idea what the other one is (probably thanks to my spell checker).
    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entr...t=Abstract

    15 C: Colobopsis truncates
âThe Antsâ? page 331 Figure 8-33

    16 B: Neurotoxin

8th section down, Stings, Venom, and Defensive Behavio.

    17 A: Temnothorax curvispinosus
    http://www.biosci.ohio-state.edu...simusQ.htm
Picture of them as the host. They are also the target of several slave-raiding species.

18 C: They dab repellent on enemies with their gaster in an over head fashion.

    19 B: Formica neogagates
    http://www.myrmecos.net/formicin...gates.html

    20 B: Prenolepis imparis
    ohioline.osu.edu/hyg-fact/2000/2155.html
I think this site has the best diagram of their replete caste.

    21 B: Myrmica rubra
âThe Antsâ? page 156. This was a hard one since so many other species were listed.

22 A: In the first half hour.
âJourney to the Antsâ? pictured between pages 84 and 85.

    23 B: 1/10
âThe Antsâ? page 324, Figure 8-26

    24 A: Tetramorium caespitum
Also not sure on the source.

    25 C: Camponotus castaneus
    pick4.pick.uga.edu/mp/20q...s&cl=US/MA
You have to scroll down to Camponotus castaneus on the left and third picture down is an orange male.

    26 C: Aenictus
    http://www.myrmecos.net/ants/aenictus.html

    27 A: Myrmoteras toro
âThe Antsâ? page 278, Figure 7-54

28 A: Take care of eggs and young larvae.
âJourney to the Antsâ? Pictured between page 84 and 85. The minor caste is rarely seen since they are always inside the nest with the eggs and young larvae.

    29 B: Oecophylla smaragdina
    http://www.geocities.com/brisban...tleAnt.htm
Here they are seen nesting like weaver ants. I believe a bit more mud goes into their structure however.

    30 D: Black with Orange/Yellow abdomen
    http://www.myrmecos.net/formicin...ystus.html
I actually didnât know all three patterns but from looking over some pictures I named a pattern I didnât see.

31 A: Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee
    ipmworld.umn.edu/chapters/lockley.htm
I think this is actually an old site but most up to date.

    32 D: Proceratium google
    http://www.antweb.org/descriptio...e&project=

    33 B: Amblyopone
    http://www.myrmecos.net/ants/amblyopone.html

    34 A: Myrmecia
    http://www.myrmecos.net/ants/myrmecia.html
These ants are also in a documentary, I think called âKiller Antsâ? because of theâJack Jumperâsâ? nasty sting.

    35 C: Paratrechina longicornis
Because these ants would most likely nest in leaf litter or hallow space and Solenopsis molesta conduct their raids underground.

    36 A: Between two microscope slides (76 X 26mm).
âJourney to the Antsâ? page 218

    37 D: 300,000 or more
    http://www.ipm.ucdavis.edu/TOOLS...araoh.html
âColonies with up to 300,000 workers with multiple queensâ?
I should have removed the âor moreâ? part, but as Dr.Ant stated "Depends on size of the founding population and how long since establishment of the population."

    38 C: Christmas Island Crabs
    http://www.deh.gov.au/parks/chri...crazy.html

    39 D: Oligogyny
    âThe Antsâ? page 641

    âThe Antsâ? page 635
